Process of Improving and Expanding My Instructional Repertoire
As a teacher, it is imperative to continue growing and learning along with your students. There are always ways we can improve, and through my time at MSU and my field experience at Grandville High School, I was able to expand my instructional repertoire by implementing a new strategy to solve a problem I was finding with my students.

My Experience

I worked as a Undergraduate Assistant for a World Regional Geography class at Michigan State University in the Spring of 2016.
I worked as a volunteer at the Port Sanilac Village and Museum in the summer of 2016 where I was able to research and design an exhibit in the museum. I also assisted in guiding tours, preparing for events, and conducting organizational tasks.

My "Education, Society, and Learning in South Africa" Education Abroad Trip in the summer of 2017 allowed me to learn about history, culture, and education. I analyzed the historical context of the lives of students and investigated the historical impact of violence on the lives of people in South Africa.
From the spring of 2016-spring 2018, I was an instructor for Michigan State University's Ballroom Dance Team.

During the summer of 2018, I was a volunteer docent (tour guide) at the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse Museum in Port Huron, MI.
My resume:

At Michigan State University, the Education program has allowed me to get connected with students in a variety of ways:
In the Fall of 2015, I volunteered at Cumberland Elementary School in Lansing, Michigan to help improve the reading and writing skills of a third grader who had just moved to the United States. The placement included individually working with my student for two hours a week to improve her reading, writing, and comprehension skills. One of the main things I learned from this experience was how to evaluate a student’s ability and consider one's experiences in order to teach in an effective way.
In the Spring of 2017, I volunteered at Eastern High School in Lansing, Michigan. At Eastern, I was both able to observe and interact with students. My placement included two hours a week of observation and interaction in a seventh grade social studies classroom. I composed a 20 minute lesson on the Indus River Valley civilization for a 7th grade classroom during my time there. I also spent one to two hours a week working individually with a student to improve his reading fluency and comprehension skills. During this time I learned how to inspire unmotivated students to work.
In the Fall of 2017 and Spring of 2018, I volunteered at Haslett Middle School in Haslett, Michigan. My placement included two hours a week of observation and interaction with an eighth grade social studies classroom. During this time I participated in a co-teaching experience with my mentor teacher and two other student teachers on the War of 1812. I also collaborated with my mentor teacher and a fellow student teacher on a lesson about society in the north and south before the U.S. Civil War and instructed the lesson individually. During this time I learned effective methods of presentation for lessons.
From the Fall of 2018 to the Spring of 2019, I interned at Grandville High School in Grandville, Michigan. From Monday through Thursday, and some Fridays, I observed and taught 3 U.S. History classes and 2 Honors World History classes. Throughout the year I created and implemented lessons based on the Inquiry Design Model where the students answered supporting questions in order to answer the overall compelling question for a unit. I also was able to learn and work with the ESL and Special Education teacher in order to better help and prepare my students with special needs.
